How to do it

  1. 1

    Open your video

Choose a file or drop it on the page. A timeline with thumbnails appears under the preview.

  2. 2

    Mark the part

Drag the two handles, or type exact times like 1:23.45. Press I and O to set the start and end at the playhead.

  3. 3

Keep it or cut it out

Keep selection trims the start and end. Cut out selection removes the middle and joins the rest. Press Play selection to check.

  4. 4

    Export

Precise cuts on the exact frame. Fast copies the selection in seconds without re-encoding.

Trim the ends or cut out the middle

Most of the time you want to lose a slow start or a fumbled ending: choose Keep selection, place the handles around the part worth keeping and export. Everything outside the handles is dropped.

Sometimes the problem is in the middle, a mistake, an interruption, a long pause. Switch to Cut out selection, mark the part to remove, and ClipLime joins what comes before and after it into one continuous video, with a tiny audio fade at the join so there's no click. Preview the cut plays the moments around the join so you can hear and see how it flows before you export.

Precise or Fast?

Compressed video is stored in groups of frames. A keyframe is a complete picture; the frames after it only describe what changed. A copy made without re-encoding has to begin on a keyframe, because the frames in between can't be shown without the picture they depend on.

Fast copies your selection exactly as it's stored, so it's finished in seconds with zero quality loss, but the start moves back to the keyframe just before your handle. The panel tells you that time before you export, and a dashed line marks it on the timeline. The result keeps your file's original format.

Precise re-encodes the selection so it begins and ends on the exact frames you chose, using a bitrate matched to the original so it keeps its look. Cutting out a section always works this way, so the join is seamless.

Landing on the exact frame

  • While you drag a handle, the preview shows the frame at that point, so you can see exactly where the cut falls.
  • ← and → step the playhead one frame at a time; hold Shift to jump a second.
  • The −1f and +1f buttons move the start or end by a single frame.
  • Type times in whichever way is natural: 1:23.45, 83.45 or 1m23s all work.
  • Play selection plays from the start handle and stops at the end handle.

After trimming

A shorter clip is a good moment to compress it for sharing, turn it into a looping GIF or join it with other clips. Removing lots of pauses from a talk or tutorial? The Silence Remover finds and cuts them all at once.

Questions people ask

How do I cut a section out of the middle of a video?

Choose Cut out selection, drag the handles around the part you don't want, check it with Preview the cut, then press Cut out section. The parts before and after are joined into one video.

Does trimming reduce the quality?

Fast mode doesn't touch the picture at all. Precise mode re-encodes at a bitrate matched to your original, so the difference is very hard to see.

Why does my Fast trim start slightly earlier than I chose?

A copy without re-encoding has to begin on a keyframe, and those are often a second or more apart. Fast mode shows the exact start time before you export. Choose Precise to start on the exact frame.

Can I remove several parts at once?

This tool handles one selection at a time, run it again on the result for another cut. For removing many pauses automatically, use the Silence Remover.

Which format will I get?

Precise trims and cut-outs are saved as H.264 MP4 files that play everywhere. Fast trims keep the original format, so an MOV stays an MOV and a WebM stays a WebM.

Is there a length limit?

No fixed limit. The exported clip is put together in your browser's memory before you save it, so very long, high-resolution videos are more comfortable on a computer than on a phone.
